"I enjoy judging because I am able to contribute back to the activity that I love, and that has provided me with so many opportunities and relationships. I am able to use my education and experiences to "be in the moment" with the performers and recognize and reward achievement. I also love the "goosebumps" I frequently get when the magic happens."

"My "why" is very personal for me, as during each judging assignment I set out to make sure that the percussion students and staff in any program, in any part of the country, will have an adjudicator that is excited, focused, and completely in tune with their percussive journey. I love being a voice that recognizes every individual and the smallest and largest achievement in real time. Experiencing young musicians performing and enjoying the activity I love, is a perpetual full circle moment that never gets old."

"I most importantly enjoy witnessing the hard work, passion, and commitment level of young performers, with the greater understanding of how being involved with the marching arts, working together for a common goal are experiences that will truly help shape their lives. As an adjudicator, I really strive be helpful, to come to each show with fresh eyes and ears that can help groups recognize strengths and identify areas to refine to reach their fullest potential. "

"First and foremost, I’ve always felt a strong sense of gratitude for all of the professional opportunities that I’ve been so fortunate to experience, thanks to my time spent in the pageantry arts community. Therefore, having the opportunity to share what I’ve learned from my students, my teachers, and my heroes with the performers in real time is a gift, and I will never take that perspective for granted.
Secondly, the joy and fulfillment of helping performers, teachers, and staff members in any way, large or small to help shape their musical experience more successfully, or more importantly, more enjoyably is one of the core principles I have as an educator, and lies at the very essence of who I am as a musician and teacher.
Lastly, experiencing performers of any age, or any experience level giving every once of their ability to the moment is something that demands my respect and admiration for being both vulnerable and courageous enough to create art. I’ve been moved emotionally by both ends of the performance spectrum; the highest musical and technical levels of the percussion community, as well as younger, developing musicians that have masterfully succeeded in bringing a musical moment to life through the lens of their growing experiences."

"Judging helps me be a more rounded teacher for my students. It affords me a different perspective on listening, that I can later share with the students in my own ensembles. "
